Gemotions

The card was the only thing in the mailbox besides a flyer for a local pizza place. For John, this was an enigma he didn’t want. He’d lived alone for years, and he generally preferred it. He didn't want any surprises.

He went inside and slammed the door, a little harder than usual. He tossed the card onto the table. He then grabbed a beer. He tried to think of anyone who knew his birthday. No one came to mind.

He sat down and swigged the beer, the silence in the apartment pressing down on him. He felt… exposed. He felt a need to check the locks on his doors and windows, even though he knew there was nothing to worry about. He was alone.
