Gemotions

The email notification popped up on David’s screen, a digital echo of the physical invitation that had arrived in the mail a week prior. He scrolled through the message, the promises of camaraderie and reminiscence feeling hollow. He leaned back in his chair, his brow furrowed, his gaze drifting towards the framed degree on his wall.

A deep breath. He hated looking back. He had worked so hard to get where he was, to build a life. To build *himself*. What if those people still saw him as the skinny, shy kid who hid in the back of the class? He chewed on his lip, a nervous habit he thought he’d long broken.

His fingers hovered over the “delete” button. He wasn’t sure if he should go, and he didn’t know why he felt the way he did.
