The heavy parchment felt almost threatening in Michael's grasp. He held it up to the light, as if searching for a hidden meaning. The official seal of Crestwood High gleamed, a reminder of a past he'd long since buried. He hadn’t thought of those years, not really.

A frown creased his forehead. He ran a hand through his closely cropped hair, a gesture that had become second nature. He was successful now, his life seemingly in order. Yet, the invitation had thrown him off-kilter, a pebble tossed into a still pond. He walked over to the desk and wrote a note to himself.

His mind felt very active all of a sudden.
