Eliza stared at the display window of the bakery across the street. A sign, brightly lit, advertised "Grandma Rose's Famous Lemon Bars." Her stomach lurched. Her grandmother, Grandma Rose, had indeed had a famous lemon bar recipe. But Grandma Rose was her grandmother. And she was the one who was supposed to be baking the lemon bars.

The scent of lemons drifted across the street, beckoning her. Her palms felt clammy. She’d always intended to open her own bakery, using her grandmother's recipes. Now, someone else was profiting from her legacy, from her memories. A strange, tight feeling gripped her throat, making it difficult to breathe.
