The ramen in Maya's bowl felt suddenly cold. She’d been enjoying it, savoring the broth’s warmth as she read her textbook. Now, the noodles seemed to have lost all their flavor, like dust in her mouth. Across the room, Liam was humming along to a song on his headphones, completely oblivious. It was probably nothing, she told herself, the nagging feeling wouldn’t go away. She'd left her journal on the desk earlier. She walked to the desk, grabbed the journal, and held it to her chest. It was just a feeling, she repeated, but the journal felt heavier than usual.
