The bright sunlight streaming through the window seemed to mock Alex as he looked at the screen. The profile, "SilentStormSam," belonged to his daughter, Samantha. The images, filled with angst-ridden poetry and bleak landscapes, were completely at odds with his memories.

He took a deep breath, trying to steady himself. He felt a profound sense of disorientation, as though he had walked into a mirror and seen a reflection he didn't recognize. He closed his eyes, then opened them again, as if the act could change the reality before him.
