“This is… unusual,” said David, his voice carefully neutral. He adjusted his glasses, peering at the control panel. He’d tried every button, every trick he knew, or that he could think of. The phone line, the alarm, the door opener... nothing.

His coworker, Maria, was staring at the ceiling, her face unreadable. He felt a slow, growing wave of disquiet. This was not how his day was supposed to go.
