"What the...?" The words escaped Chloe's lips in a hushed whisper as she stared at the notice. Her hands began to tremble.

She went over to the window. The world outside, usually comforting in its familiarity, now seemed to mock her. She felt like she had been plunged into deep water.

She paced back and forth across the small living room, the paper clutched tightly in her hand. Her mind seemed to be working in slow motion. She needed a moment to catch her breath, to find her footing.
