"The penthouse apartment, overlooking the city, is now the possession of Daniel," the executor declared. Daniel sat, a picture of smug satisfaction. Across the room, Eleanor shifted in her seat, her breath catching in her throat.

"And for you, Eleanor," the executor continued, "the family's extensive collection of cookbooks and the rights to their publishing." A knot formed in her stomach. The cookbooks. Her grandmother had been an amazing cook, not a publisher.

She closed her eyes for a second, trying to regain her composure. She wasn't angry, not exactly. She just felt… adrift. It felt like she had lost a map to a treasure.
