The waiting room seemed to shrink around her. She focused on the abstract painting on the wall, trying to decipher its shapes. It was an exercise in distraction, and it wasn’t working. She'd walked into a therapy session looking for answers, but now, she was awash with a jumble of unexpected feelings. Why had she agreed to this? The receptionist had been very kind and said he had an immediate opening.

When the door opened, she caught the familiar scent of… was it sandalwood? He looked different, older, and… calmer. The man with the mischievous grin was now wearing a serious expression. He gestured for her to enter his office, and she followed, her footsteps feeling heavy.
