David found the list tucked inside a worn, leather-bound diary. His grandfather, a man of military precision, had always appeared so stern. "Paint a masterpiece. Write a symphony. Tell someone you love them." The words seemed impossibly out of character.

He went out into the garden, staring at the perfectly manicured rose bushes. A flicker of doubt and disbelief swirled within him. His grandfather had carefully cultivated this garden, but had he neglected his own desires? The silence surrounding his family was suddenly thick with unspoken words. He felt a deep sense of dislocation.
