Gemotions

He stared at the sunflowers, their faces tilted towards the afternoon sun. He picked them up carefully, sniffing at their strong, earthy scent. The gesture, the cheerful bloom – it was a mystery. A knot tightened in his stomach. Who would send him sunflowers?

He found himself wandering through his apartment, the flowers held awkwardly in front of him. He looked out the window, at the street below, searching for a face. The flowers' brightness seemed almost accusing, as if they knew something he didn't. He ran his hand through his hair, a nervous gesture he hadn't noticed he possessed.
