Liam closed the laptop, the screen reflecting his pale face. He'd been researching the phenomenon, trying to find some logical explanation. The drawing, a vibrant depiction of "Twirl," was now pinned to his fridge. Liam's niece, Maya, had been drawing him for weeks, describing their imaginary adventures.

He felt a sudden, inexplicable chill. The hairs on the back of his neck stood on end. He hadn't thought about Twirl in years, the friendly creature with the swirling colors. Now, Liam felt as if something was watching him.

The silence of his apartment felt oppressive, each creak of the floorboards a potential threat. He got up and moved towards the front door. He needed to get out, he needed to be with people, to escape this growing fear.
