"Unbelievable," Clara muttered, her voice tight with disbelief. She looked down at the book. It was a perfect, bound reflection of her life. The perfect reflection of a life she'd worked so hard to keep private. She felt a knot forming in her stomach.

She ran a hand through her hair, a gesture that felt more frantic than casual. She felt exposed, vulnerable, as though she were standing naked in a crowded room. Her breath hitched. She felt… adrift.

She flipped the book open, the pages feeling slick and foreign beneath her fingertips. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. She had to figure out what to do. The world outside the book seemed distant, unyielding. But she knew that she could not let this thing consume her. She had to take control.
