He flinched as a power saw tore through the air. The vibration seemed to go straight through him. Mark felt it in his teeth. He felt his hands begin to sweat.

He had started the day with good intentions, but now he was locked inside his own home. The prospect of venturing out felt unbearable. He glanced at the front door, then immediately looked away.

The air grew thick with dust and the smell of sawdust. He pressed his face to the cool glass of the window, silently watching the activity next door. He felt trapped.
