Gemotions

The clatter of the shop's door closing behind him sounded incredibly loud. He stood frozen, the harsh glare of the setting sun hitting him in the eyes. He squeezed them shut, then forced them open. The ring. It was sitting there, glittering beneath the glass. He felt a sharp, sudden pain in his chest, as though something had physically broken.

He couldn't think straight. He kept replaying the scene in his mind: the shopkeeper's casual dismissal of its significance, the careless way the ring had been displayed. He clenched his fists, knuckles white. The air felt thin, difficult to breathe. He wanted to scream.

He spun on his heel and walked. The walk had no destination. He just wanted the feeling inside to stop.
