The car keys felt heavy in Ben's hand. He'd just parked the car in the driveway, the same driveway where he'd spent his childhood summers. Now he was back, feeling like a ghost. He took a deep breath, the air thick with the scent of freshly cut grass.

Inside, his mother bustled around the kitchen, her movements quick and efficient. He felt a nervous sweat break out on his forehead. He saw his old room through the doorway, untouched, exactly as he'd left it.

"Dinner will be ready soon, honey," his mother said, her voice a little too cheerful. He swallowed hard. The thought of sitting down at the dinner table, the same table where he’d argued with his parents countless times, sent a shiver down his spine.
