The roar of the crowd was deafening, but all Leo could hear was the pounding of his own heart. He was a running back, built for power and speed. But now, he was standing at wide receiver. The coach, face grim, had simply said, "Leo, we're changing things up."

His palms were slick with sweat. He adjusted his gloves, his fingers clumsy and unfamiliar. He glanced towards the quarterback, the familiar connection feeling strained.

He took a deep breath, the air feeling thin and inadequate. The sun beat down, turning the field into a shimmering expanse. The other players seemed to move in a blur. The ball was coming at him. He steeled himself, ready for the impact.
