The whistle blew, and Sarah, a dedicated long-jumper, stood frozen. "Sarah, you're competing in the shot put this meet," Coach Miller had said, his voice firm. She stared at the heavy metal ball, the surface cold and unforgiving.

Her stomach clenched, her muscles tensing. Long jump was her event. The rhythm, the speed, the feeling of flight - that was her specialty.

She looked at the other athletes, the specialized strength they had. She felt a wave of self-doubt. She wasn't built for this. She took a deep breath, forcing herself to focus.

She closed her eyes, trying to visualize the throwing motion. She needed to learn it, quickly.
