He had been in the garden for a ridiculous amount of time. Rain lashed against the kitchen window. The rhythmic drumming did nothing to soothe the tremor in her hands as she watched him through the glass. Liam was on his phone again, tucked away behind the rose bushes, his voice a low murmur she couldn't quite decipher.

A coldness spread through her chest. She found herself pacing the kitchen, the floorboards groaning under her feet. She went to the window to wipe away the condensation and he was still there.

She picked up the phone, intending to call him. Her thumb hovered over his number, and then she slammed the phone back down. A wave of nausea hit her.
