The car ride was silent, punctuated only by the hum of the engine and the crackle of the radio. Liam kept glancing at Ethan, whose profile was illuminated by the dashboard lights. The memory of the concert, supposedly the highlight of their high school years, felt like a fractured puzzle, the pieces scattered and jumbled.

Ethan, without turning his head, started to describe the opening act. His narrative resonated with such vividness, such clarity. Liam's recollection was a chaotic blur of noise and movement.

He gripped the steering wheel so hard his knuckles ached. His muscles tensed. He struggled to reconcile their realities.

He cleared his throat. "Wasn't it… earlier in the evening? I thought it was still light outside when they started." Ethan didn't reply, and the ensuing silence seemed to amplify his sense of distress.
