The news hit Ben like a physical blow. He read the article again, each word a stab. “Published by Victoria Sterling.” He gripped the edge of the table, knuckles white. A strange buzzing filled his ears, blurring his vision.

He found himself pacing his small apartment, the worn rug under his feet a familiar comfort that failed to provide any solace. He stopped in front of the mirror, studying his reflection. He barely recognized the pale, wide-eyed man staring back at him.
