Gemotions

A prickle of unease crawled across Maya's skin. She found a flash drive labeled “Spanish Study” plugged into her laptop. A cold sweat beaded on her forehead. The air in the room suddenly felt thick, too warm.

She knew, in her gut, it had to be from David. They'd been together for five years. She'd always been the one to speak Spanish, her family’s language, the link to her heritage. He’d always admired it, the way the words rolled off her tongue.

She ran her hand over the keyboard, her fingertips trembling. What was he doing? Who was he trying to impress? She needed to know. She pulled out the flash drive and the screen went black as she began to feel as though she couldn't breathe.
