Gemotions

The sudden downpour sent a chill through Amelia. The rain mirroring the cold knot forming in her stomach. She had come to the yard sale, hoping to find a distraction from the financial burden she was carrying. Seeing a familiar face could bring a bit of peace to a troubled mind. As she ducked under an awning, she spotted him. Button Nose, her dearest friend from when she was a little girl.

She felt her pulse quicken. The woman selling the items was busy chattering on her phone, and Amelia was grateful for the opportunity to have a moment with the bear. She ran her fingers over the faded fur, a strange mix of sadness and relief washing over her.

“He's not for sale, dear.” The woman’s voice cut through the air. Amelia turned around, surprised. “He’s my grandson’s. He wouldn’t be happy if I sold it.” Amelia’s shoulders slumped slightly, the relief dissolving into dejection. She mumbled an apology and walked away, the familiar warmth of Button Nose’s presence now replaced with a deep, hollow feeling.
