The letter’s stark words hit him like a physical blow. He'd been hoping to find a distraction from his own troubles, but now he was buried in someone else’s. He had stumbled upon a confession of a terrible secret, hidden inside a copy of *Hamlet*. The room seemed to shrink.

He felt his hands clench. He ran his hand through his hair, over and over. He kept reading the final sentence. He felt cornered, trapped. A wave of dizziness washed over him. He felt like he should know something, or do something, but he couldn’t think. He needed to be away from the book, from the letter, from himself.
