The familiar scent of laundry detergent filled the room, but it did little to calm Amelia. She noticed the cover of her journal was slightly askew. Her carefully constructed privacy had been invaded. A prickling sensation ran down her spine. The world felt like it had shifted on its axis.

Her roommate, Jessica, was sitting on the bed, flipping through a magazine. Amelia's gaze flickered to Jessica's face, searching for any sign, any clue. She noticed the slight tremor of Jessica’s hand as she turned the pages.

Amelia felt a profound sense of isolation. She felt a strong urge to flee, to be alone, to rebuild her shattered sense of security. She picked up her bag and walked out without a word.
