Liam paced the length of his small apartment, the worn carpet a familiar comfort that suddenly felt unfamiliar, like walking on shifting sand. The screenshots, the side-by-side comparisons of his unpublished screenplay and the new blockbuster by his idol, the legendary Victor Sterling, taunted him from his laptop screen. He stopped abruptly, his chest aching.

He ran a hand through his hair, tugging at the strands as if he could somehow pull the truth from his skull. His carefully constructed world had crumbled, replaced by a sense of deep unease.

He went to the window, staring at the bustling street below, the vibrant life continuing as if nothing had happened. He leaned his forehead against the cool glass, the sudden contact doing little to ease the turmoil inside him.
