He kept replaying the scene in his head. Sunlight, harsh. The park bench, hard beneath his back. The woman, Sarah, a vibrant splash of color against the green. That vacant stare. He had introduced himself, offered a shaky, “Do you remember?”

No. Blank.

It sent a chill through him, a coldness that settled in his bones. He felt like he had been running a marathon, his body aching. His palms were slick with sweat. He kept clenching and unclenching his fists. This was impossible.

He’d almost tripped on the uneven pavement walking away. He felt the weight of the past, suddenly distant and untouchable, a dream he could no longer quite grasp. He had to sit down. He took a deep breath.
