The old trunk, heavy with the weight of years and secrets, had yielded a treasure trove of contradictions. The snapshots showed a completely different version of my grandfather. He’d been a stoic man, silent and reserved. The pictures revealed him clowning around, laughing freely, surrounded by friends.

I stood there, the album in my hand, a strange hollowness filling my chest. I felt like I was looking at a stranger, not the man who raised me. The room felt suddenly too small, too confining. My vision blurred.

I needed to understand, but the past felt like a locked door, and I didn't have the key.
