Maya’s fingers fumbled with the phone, nearly dropping it as she scrolled through her Instagram followers. Mr. Henderson, her history teacher, was there. A small, square profile picture of him grinning in front of a monument. She felt a sudden, sharp heat in her chest.

Her breath hitched. She quickly double-tapped on her phone's screen, and then quickly removed her finger. He'd seen her latest post. A photo of her and her friends at the mall.

She wanted to delete the picture. Or maybe the whole account. A knot formed in her stomach. She pictured him, sitting at home, looking at her feed.
