Liam had spent the morning avoiding any interaction with Clara, the other contender. He felt a need to remain calm and collected, but the act of it left him raw. He'd even skipped his morning coffee, the caffeine would likely make him feel worse. He took frequent trips to the water cooler, anything to get away from the quiet confines of his desk.

He could hear her phone ringing from her desk, the sound felt amplified, and it made him shudder. He pictured her smiling, as per usual, confident. He had always been the more outgoing one, but today, he felt small and insignificant.

He ran a hand through his hair and took a deep breath. He hated that he was feeling this way.
