David ran a hand through his hair, a gesture that he repeated far more often than usual that morning. He knew his composure was shot, his usual easygoing demeanor replaced by a jittery awareness. He found himself staring at Sarah, who worked in accounting, from across the room. She was wearing a t-shirt that said "Camp Pine Ridge Forever," and David's stomach lurched.

He hadn't been to Pine Ridge, but the name sparked a memory, a flash of red and green uniforms and a name that rhymed: “Camp Whispering Pines.” He felt a strange compulsion to ask her, to make sure. He grabbed his water bottle, and walked over to her. “Hey, random question, but did you ever go to…Whispering Pines?”

She looked up, surprised. “Oh my god, yes! How did you know?" A chill ran down his spine. The air in the office suddenly felt thin. He backed away, mumbling something about a friend of a friend.
