The letter’s words, sharp and decisive, echoed in Mark's mind. His uncle, the man he'd always viewed as a pillar of strength, had walked away from everything. The revelation felt like a blow, leaving him off-balance.

He reread the words again and again, each time feeling a fresh wave of…distress. He felt a sudden heat, a flush rising on his cheeks. He fumbled with his tie, loosening it.

He needed to move, to escape the confines of the office where he had found the letter. He grabbed his keys and rushed out the door, the air outside surprisingly cold against his heated skin. He needed to get away.
