"A letter for you, sir," the hotel concierge said, his voice a low murmur. Henry accepted the envelope, the crispness of the paper a stark contrast to the humid air. It was from his former business partner, a man who had betrayed him and cost him everything.

He excused himself and retreated to his room. His heart began to race. He closed the door. The paper was thin, almost translucent. The words within were a litany of guilt. He had not expected this.

He wandered the room. His hands shook as he started to take off his tie. He stared at the city out of his hotel room window, but the view was blurry. He didn’t know what to do. He felt a deep disorientation.
