The old trunk, hidden in the attic, held more than just forgotten treasures. Within, amongst faded photographs, was a letter from her late brother's best friend. He had apologized for something he’d done long ago. Her stomach tightened.

She unfolded the letter, her hands shaking. The words resurrected a part of her past she had tried to bury. She felt a chill, even though the attic was warm. She took a deep breath.

She closed the trunk lid and ran her hands over it. The dust swirled around her. She descended the stairs slowly, each step feeling heavy. She needed to be away from the house. She grabbed her keys.
