The laptop screen swam before Michael's eyes. He blinked, refocusing on the Zillow listing. The porch swing, the one he'd spent countless summer afternoons on, was still there, but now it looked… different. Smaller, maybe. Less welcoming. His hands were clammy, and he wiped them on his jeans, leaving a smear. The photos, perfectly lit and staged, showed a life that wasn’t his, a family that wasn't his. He felt a sharp pang, a pressure in his chest that made it hard to breathe. He closed the browser, then immediately opened it again. He needed to see it, he had to keep looking.
