He’d always felt like an only child, a singular, self-contained unit. Now, this. A shared history, a pre-existing family member he’d never known about. He felt…off-kilter.

He stared at the documents, the official papers with the proof of blood relation. He ran a hand through his hair, a nervous gesture he didn’t often indulge in. He crumpled the papers in his hand, then quickly smoothed them out again.

He slammed his fist on the desk. The sound startled him. He needed to clear his head. He had to think through what it meant, what he should do. He rose and walked to the window, the city sprawling below him, now a landscape of potential futures.
