It was the DNA test that finally proved it. The result had been delivered by a doctor. A sister. He felt a sudden, cold wave wash over him.

He was in a sterile waiting room. He couldn’t bring himself to look at the doctor. Instead, he stared out the window at the parking lot. The vehicles seemed to swim before his eyes.

He got to his feet, nearly knocking over a chair. He needed to move, to escape the suffocating atmosphere of the room. He walked out, his legs feeling heavy, each step a chore. The sun was blinding.
