Gemotions

He slammed the door, the force of it vibrating through the floorboards. She winced, the sudden noise a sharp jab to her temples. Her hand instinctively went to her head, pressing against the skin as if to ward off pain. He had gone too far.

She stood in the center of her living room, her breath catching in her throat. The silence that followed was worse than the sound. Her gaze darted around the room, settling on the clock. It seemed to tick with extra emphasis, each second a hammer blow.

“I’m sorry, I’ll try to be quieter.” She muttered the words to herself as she began to pace. Why had he been so harsh? She wanted to call, needed to say something, but was unsure what words to use.
