Gemotions

The knock, sharp and insistent, echoed in the otherwise quiet apartment. She froze, her hand halfway to the volume control. The door was the last thing she wanted to open.

Her pulse accelerated. Each beat was a sharp drum against her ribs. She took a step back, her back hitting the cold wall. She felt trapped. The noise was unbearable.

“Just…just a minute,” she called, her voice thin and shaky. She quickly turned down the music, her movements jerky and uncoordinated. She wished the day would just end.
