"Are you sure this is the right place?" Mark asked, his voice strained. He stood in the muddy patch, a single shovel propped beside him. His father had insisted on the dig, claiming a 'surprise' buried decades ago. The old man, now frail, watched from the porch, a cryptic smile on his face.

The box was small, unassuming. When Mark opened it, a cascade of forgotten objects tumbled out: a baseball card, a matchbox car, and a cassette tape. He lifted the tape to his nose, the scent of dust and old plastic filling his nostrils. A feeling of dread, deep and unsettling, washed over him. The world around him seemed to blur.
