Gemotions

The flickering candlelight cast dancing shadows on the walls of the old house. Sarah turned the drawing over and over in her hands – a portrait of a boy with a mischievous grin and a halo of orange hair. "He's called Flicker," Lily had told her, her eyes sparkling.

Sarah felt a sudden, inexplicable tightening in her chest. The feeling that she had known this boy was overpowering. She found herself wandering to the guest room.

She sat on the edge of the bed and felt a sadness bloom in her heart, a pang of what was lost. She remembered the secret language they had created, the games they played in the woods behind her childhood home.
