He watched the rain streak down the window, the city lights blurring into shimmering streaks of gold. He felt the familiar weight in his chest, a sense of… well, of something heavy. He was instructing the newest hire on the nuances of the client database. He’d spent countless hours wrestling with that database, building and refining it. Now, it was being handed over, piece by piece.

He rubbed his chin, a bristly sensation he hadn't noticed before. He hadn't shaved in two days. The mirror reflected the tired lines etched around his eyes, a roadmap of late nights and early mornings. He thought of all the projects he’d poured his soul into, the successes and the failures. He wished he had documented more, saved more of his work.
