Gemotions

The rhythmic thump of the jump rope echoed in the empty gym. She skipped, her movements practiced and fluid. She had always been a sprinter, built for speed and explosive power. Now, they were asking her to run the marathon.

She stopped skipping, her breath coming in shallow gasps. She imagined the grueling miles, the relentless endurance, the pain that would test her limits. It was a world away from the short bursts of speed she was used to.

She looked at her legs, strong and lean, but not necessarily built for the marathon. She thought about the endless training sessions, the blisters, the mental fortitude required to keep going. She had no fear. But she felt a coldness. She paused, and her muscles suddenly ached.
