The echoing announcements were a constant reminder of his predicament. The metallic tang of the airport air did nothing to calm Jasper’s nerves. His daughter’s first piano recital. A moment he’d promised himself he’d be there for.

He chewed on his lip, his gaze fixed on the endless stream of people moving through the terminal. He envisioned her delicate fingers on the keys, the look of determination on her face. A surge of frustration boiled within him.

He pictured the recital hall, the expectant faces. The thought of not being there, of letting her down, made him shift uncomfortably in his seat.
