He stared at the fishing rod leaning against the wall, its familiar presence now somehow alien. The doctor's voice, calm and professional, echoed in his mind: "A clerical error… your test results… they’re someone else's." The sense of unreality was profound.

He walked outside, the setting sun painting the sky in vibrant hues of orange and purple. The air was crisp, carrying the scent of pine. He needed to be outdoors, to reconnect with something tangible. The diagnosis he'd received, which had felt so terrifying, no longer pertained to him.

He sat on the porch swing, the rhythmic creak a gentle counterpoint to the turmoil in his mind. He took a deep breath, the air filling his lungs. He felt a strange sort of lightness, as if a great weight had been lifted, even though he knew he still had to wait for the truth.
