Gemotions

The scent of chlorine hung in the air at the pool, a smell she usually found invigorating. Today, it felt oppressive. The curt phone call from the clinic kept replaying in her mind: “Mistake… your file… not your results.” The words resonated with a strange, hollow echo.

She swam a few laps, her movements automatic, her thoughts a jumbled mess. She felt a profound sense of being unmoored, adrift in a sea of unknowns. The fear she’d felt regarding her health now belonged to someone else.

She climbed out of the pool and wrapped herself in a towel, the damp fabric clinging to her skin. The sun felt warm on her face, but she felt a chill deep within. She felt as though she’d just been released from prison, except she wasn’t sure she wanted her freedom.
