Gemotions

The click of the lock seemed loud in the silent office. Jessica closed her drawer, feeling the cool metal against her palm. She closed her eyes. This place was familiar, the air stale with memories.

Her skin prickled. This department had been her life for years. She thought about the people, the projects, the challenges. She felt a profound sense of… something heavy.

She turned and saw the empty space where her desk used to be. The clean desk was both welcoming and forbidding. She sighed. She was ready. Or, at least, she hoped she was.
