The critic's words were a cold, sharp knife twisting in Chef Isabella's gut. "Technically proficient, yet emotionally vacant," was the worst part. She closed her eyes, letting the statement replay in her mind. Her meticulously plated dishes, the countless hours she'd spent perfecting each detail, all seemed to have been in vain.

She stood in the center of her empty dining room, the elegant tables gleaming under the soft lighting. The silence was deafening, broken only by the hum of the refrigerator. She ran a hand over the starched white linen, a gesture of almost unconscious despair. She’d always strived for perfection, following the rules.
