The screen blazed with the digital review, a modern-day execution. "Clumsy," "uninspired," and the final, brutal statement, "a chef whose time has passed." Chef Leo, usually brimming with ideas, felt the creative well dry up. His kitchen, the heart of his existence, felt barren and cold.

He sat alone in his apartment, staring at the ceiling. The thoughts swirled, like the food in the blender, around in circles. He had poured his heart and soul into his craft, chasing the elusive dream of culinary fame. Now, he felt exposed, vulnerable, stripped of his identity.

He got up and walked over to the window, the cityscape a blur of neon lights and shadows. He had to be strong, to reinvent himself. He felt a flicker of resolve. He went back to the computer, and began to research.

He was beginning again. He knew he had to change everything, and make it new. He felt the cold air rush in through the open window, the night's solace. He had to go on.
